About The Position

Join our kitchen team at The Settlement Home, a residential treatment center supporting children and young adults who have experienced trauma, neglect, and abuse. This as-needed Relief Cook role lets you contribute your culinary skills without a full-time commitment — shifts vary and total roughly 8 hours per month, with schedules from 8:00am –3:00pm or 3:00pm – 7:00pm. You may be called in with short notice, but there are no nights, weekends, or holidays. If you want to make a meaningful impact while keeping your schedule flexible, this role is a perfect fit. Schedule Note This is an as-needed position with a guaranteed two shifts per month (approximately 8 hours total). You may be called to assist with regular morning shifts (8a–3p) or evening shifts (3p–7p). We do our best to provide at least one day’s notice, though same-day requests are possible. No late nights, weekends, or holidays. Availability for last minute work requests is an essential function of this position. The Relief Cook is responsible for daily lunch or dinner meal preparation and serving lunch or dinner to staff and residents. The Relief Cook will follow the menu and recipes provided to create two meal options per meal period. The Relief Cook will keep all areas clean, as well as cleaning up after meal prep and meal service. The Relief Cook will work with other kitchen staff in a professional manner to ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Food Handlers License.
  • Desire to work with children and adolescents.
  • Must meet personnel requirements as outlined in the Minimum Standards for Residential Treatment Centers in Texas and Minimum Standards for CPAs in Texas.
  • Have a valid driver's license and less than 2 moving violations and/or 1 accident within the past 3 years.
  • Must have and maintain current auto liability insurance and provide proof of insurance when requested.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and serving daily meals as outlined in the weekly menus
  • Following recipes for daily meals
  • Cleaning up prep and serving areas after meals
  • Washing dishes and kitchenware used during meals and meal prep
  • General cleanliness of kitchen and dining hall
  • Flexible availability allowing for last minute requests to report to work
