JOB DESCRIPTION The Reliability Engineer is responsible for improving the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all equipment and processes within the renewable diesel facility. This position provides technical and leadership support to the Maintenance Department, ensuring that all assets operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production goals. In addition to reliability program management, this role includes supervisory responsibility for maintenance personnel and turnaround maintenance coordination and scheduling.

  • Deploy complex reliability excellence activities which identify and prioritize reliability engineering value creation opportunities.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain reliability programs to improve equipment uptime and overall plant performance.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for equipment issues and lead corrective action implementation.
  • Perform technical reviews of complex projects and collaborate with related areas on new equipment reliability specifications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to prioritize maintenance projects and reliability initiatives.
  • Support design reviews and project planning to ensure reliability and maintainability are incorporated into new installations.
  • Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic inspections.
  • Execute the identification and elimination of bad actors leading to the optimization of equipment availability.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction for the Maintenance Department including but not limited to: Maintenance Supervisor, AEI and PMD Technicians, external contractors as necessary.
  • Support workforce planning, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Plan, assign, and review work to ensure alignment with facility maintenance priorities and safety standards.
  • Develop and mentor maintenance personnel to strengthen technical capabilities and promote a proactive reliability culture.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the specific lubrication program to ensure refinement and effectiveness.
  • Partner with and provide guidance to maintenance repairs and production in reliability related processes along with the identification of critical spares.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate leadership.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.
  • Perform duties primarily on-site to ensure direct collaboration, timely response to operational needs, and hands-on support, with limited remote work flexibility.
  • Available to respond to calls for assistance, direction and troubleshooting of complex continuous operations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, Chemical or Industrial Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in reliability, maintenance, or engineering within a refinery, renewable fuels, or chemical process industry
  • 1+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Proven knowledge in the application of reliability tools
  • Knowledge in maintenance process management
  • Budgeting and maintenance planning experience
  • Must be able to access and navigate the production facility including frequent walking, standing, sitting, ascending, or descending stairs, ramps, or ladders using feet, hands, arms, and legs.
  • Must be able to hear, understand and distinguish speech, sounds, machinery, alarms, and sirens.
  • Must have visual acuity to make general observations of the facility/structure and recognize dangerous situations.
  • Must be able to hold, grasp, touch, and use hands and fingers to adjust or manipulate tools and equipment and operate a keyboard.
  • Must be able to drive or operate vehicles, golfcarts or other equipment.
  • Must be able work in hot or cold environments both indoors and outdoors.
  • Willing to relocate to Nebraska and become Nebraska resident (if applicable)
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply
  • 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Certified maintenance reliability professional or similar certification
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Turnaround coordination and execution experience
  • Training in predictive maintenance technologies
  • Training and knowledge of management of the proactive maintenance model
  • Experienced in Renewable Diesel, Steam Reformation, Wastewater, Vegetable Oil Refining, Hydro Processing and/or a PSM regulated facility
