About The Position

This role reports to the Maintenance Engineering Manager within the Refining Department. It’s a hands-on, high-impact position focused on improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and supporting capital projects from concept through commissioning. The Reliability Engineering team plays a critical role in ensuring the long-term performance and safety of plant equipment. Reporting to the Maintenance Engineering Manager, this group partners closely with operations and maintenance to troubleshoot issues, optimize asset performance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Their work directly supports plant throughput, safety, and cost efficiency—making them essential to the success of the entire facility. Tampa, Florida is home to a fully integrated plant that manufactures batteries used in cars, boats, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks. As a fully integrated plant, we also decorate or label our batteries into the final product for our customers. We opened in 1958 and employ more than 280 people. We operate six days per week. We are actively involved in our local community and give back through Metropolitan Ministries, The United Way and Adopt-A-Road Tampa.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field)
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance experience
  • Proven background in reliability engineering and equipment performance optimization

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing small capital projects from design through commissioning
  • Familiarity with MRO supplier evaluation and technical maintenance service providers
  • Proficiency in maintaining and updating technical documentation and engineering drawings

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot day-to-day equipment malfunctions and deliver engineered solutions that minimize downtime
  • Lead small capital projects, managing scope, budget, and startup support within schedule
  • Own reliability performance for assigned plant areas, proactively addressing issues along the P-F curve
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to guide repair, replacement, or redesign decisions with minimal operational impact
  • Develop and maintain KPI metrics, ensuring data accuracy and actionable insights for performance tracking
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and throughput through routine analysis and cross-functional collaboration
