Make a Difference As a Release of Information Technician , you will process medical record requests in compliance with all relevant laws and organizational policies. Key responsibilities include verifying authorizations, tracking requests in the EMR system, and delivering records in the required format. You will also assist patients with MyChart, manage phone inquiries, scan and index documents, retrieve archived files, and handle third-party requests. Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations, including behavioral health and 42CFR Part 2, is essential.

Requirements

  • You must obtain the Micro Credential for ROI (Release of Information) through AHIMA and achieve FinThrive Level 1 for Release of Information through MySuccess within one year of your hire date.
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 1+ years in health information management/healthcare, or current HIM student or graduate (Required) OR
  • 2+ years of office or customer service experience required, or current HIM student/HIM graduate in lieu of experience
  • Verify authorizations and documentation, following all laws and policies for release of information, including 42 CFR Part 2 and behavioral health.
  • Conduct second-level reviews for legal and insurance requests.
  • Serve as main contact for patients and representatives, guiding them on request procedures, timelines, and requirements. Assist with MyChart setup and manage related calls.
  • Retrieve, review, and deliver clinical records for all requesters. Ensure records are properly scanned and indexed into patient charts promptly.
  • Log and track all requests in the EMR, using detailed comments to monitor progress and maintain system accuracy.
