About The Position

This position requires onsite availability. Health information management is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring information management standards and systems to support the patient record. The Release of Information Specialist is responsible for all aspects of processing release or disclosure of requested Protected Health Information (PHI) according to Novant Health/Federal/State policies, procedures, laws and regulations. This includes analyzing requests for records and authorizations thoroughly for accuracy and compliance for the entire Novant Health enterprise (Acute/Ambulatory). The Release of Information Specialist is knowledgeable in all release types and workqueues, and can effectively rotate as needed, primarily between moderate and high skill level requests. Team members in this role will also be assigned to additional on-site duties as necessary in order to maintain fluid department operations. This colleague will also foster working relationships with other departments to ensure timely resolution related to any issues within assigned workflows. All colleagues in this role will foster respect for patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality in all phases of the release of information process/release of protected health information. These colleagues will also promote positive customer relations through prompt and courteous service in this fast-paced, high volume, customer focused environment. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in hospital based HIM department, large outpatient clinic, or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal/written/interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent analytical/critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to meet standardized productivity metrics/goals.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA requirements/federal/state regulations and medical terminology.
  • Comfortable with a technology driven/computer based workflow.
  • Working knowledge of acute and ambulatory medical records.
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • RHIT credential preferred.
  • Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) preferred.
  • Experience with the EPIC EHR and/or Hyland On Base scanning application.
