About The Position

The Release of Information Specialist is responsible for safeguarding patient privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to medical information. This role involves handling confidential health information, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA policies and company procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of specialized training or education.
• At least one (1) year of experience in a related field.
• Knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.

Responsibilities

• Interact with requestors to identify medical records needed for patient care, review, billing, or release of information.
• Prioritize release of information requests and retrieve medical records from active and inactive locations.
• Electronically track and deliver records following established procedures.
• Perform self-quality checks on all work to assure accuracy and confidentiality of releases.
• Handle all requests and inquiries for patient health information via mail, fax, phone, or in person.
• Verify patient identity and ensure the requesting party has a legal right to request medical information.
• Provide excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful, ensuring understanding of customer requests, and following through as promised.
• Help respectfully resolve customer service matters.
• Access computerized patient records and other systems for patient information needed for requests.
• Maintain current knowledge related to applicable statutes, regulations, and guidelines.
