The Release Manager will oversee planning, coordination, and delivery of secure releases across multiple environments, ensuring each deployment aligns with DoD cybersecurity controls, RMF requirements, and IL4/IL5 operational readiness. This role requires close collaboration with system engineers, developers, cybersecurity analysts, and configuration managers to maintain consistent release quality, traceability, and compliance throughout the software lifecycle. This position is fully remote.

  • Serve as a key member of the cybersecurity Scrum team, coordinating releases that integrate security, compliance, and functional updates across multiple IL environments.
  • Plan and manage release schedules, ensuring alignment with Agile sprint and Program Increment (PI) objectives.
  • Oversee change control and configuration management processes in collaboration with cybersecurity and DevSecOps teams.
  • Ensure all builds, releases, and patches undergo security scanning, validation, and approval prior to production deployment.
  • Manage the Release Readiness Review (RRR) process, coordinating across development, cybersecurity, and operations stakeholders.
  • Maintain release documentation, including deployment plans, rollback procedures, and change logs.
  • Support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) activities using tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to verify RMF compliance, DISA STIG adherence, and vulnerability remediation prior to release.
  • Track release metrics, including defect density, test completion, and deployment success rates, to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate release retrospectives to identify process improvements and implement lessons learned.
  • Coordinate deployment windows, environment baselines, and artifact promotion across development, test, and production tiers.
  • Support incident response and post-release analysis, ensuring quick resolution of issues and accurate root-cause documentation.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging DevSecOps automation and release governance tools to improve deployment velocity and control.
  • Must hold an active Top Secret clearance.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing software releases, deployments, or configuration management activities within DoD or federal IT environments.
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps, Agile, or Continuous Delivery pipelines.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity release and accreditation processes, including RMF and ATO sustainment.
  • Proficiency in release and deployment automation tools (GitLab, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, or Azure DevOps).
  • Experience managing releases across IL4/IL5 or other secure cloud environments.
  • Understanding of configuration management principles, including version control and artifact traceability.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs, RMF controls, and Zero Trust architecture.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and containerized application deployment.
  • Experience using JIRA or equivalent Agile management tools for sprint and backlog coordination.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 certification.
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or AWS Solutions Architect.
  • ITIL Foundation or SAFe Agile certification.
