About The Position

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. Job Summary Under close supervision actively participates in required training classes and assists employees of the same classification or other classifications within the substation department. Under direct supervision, when qualified to work safely as work experience is acquired, assists with and engages in the inspection, testing, checking, calibrating to close tolerances, making of delicate adjustments, repairing, installing and removing of instruments, relays, and control equipment. Under general direct supervision, performs similar duties of progressively increasing importance and carries through assignments independently or with the assistance of other employees, all of whom may be the same classification. Performs duties such as: Under close supervision, assists higher classified personnel in the installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of all types of protective relays and all types of electrical circuits used in conjunction with relaying, automatic controls, and other relay related electrical. May be required to work alone or with a helper of equal or lesser classification in the field under the direction of personnel in a higher classification, not necessarily in the field, performing work of a simplified nature, providing they are familiar with or has received proper instructions, such as observe and manually initiate, by test switches, the protective control function over tone, pilot wire, or carrier channels in conjunction with higher classified personnel at the opposite terminal of the channel. Check, test, and maintain controls for reclosers, voltage regulators, switched capacitors, and tap changers. Check substations for relay targets, the number of breaker operations, annunciator targets, and other similar related work. Become familiar with the company's Electrical Tagging Rules and, by completion of first year, qualify to be placed on the approved Dispatching Department's tagging list.

Requirements

  • Must meet the Company’s requirements as to the General Qualifications
  • Must have an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or the educational and/or experience related equivalent.
  • Valid PA Operator's License or equivalent required.
  • Must have demonstrated significant electrical and mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with small, delicate, and complex equipment.
  • Must be able to analyze electrical control and protection problems and be accurate in work.
  • Must have passed qualifying examinations.

Responsibilities
