About The Position

The Relay Technician positions involve inspecting, testing, maintaining, and installing relay and control equipment in electrical substations, performing other substation maintenance duties related to protection systems. The roles range from Relay Tech I to Relay Tech SR, with increasing levels of responsibility and required experience. The positions require a strong understanding of electrical theory, safe testing techniques, and the ability to operate various electrical testing equipment. Employees are expected to perform on-call work, train less experienced personnel, and create 'As Built' drawings for changes to protection systems.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Three to five years of related experience for Relay Tech I; six or more years for Relay Tech II; nine or more years for Relay Tech SR.
• Completion of competency levels for Relay Technician I or II as applicable.
• Prior experience working with substation equipment preferred.
• Must meet regulatory standards including passing screenings required by the Company.

Nice To Haves

• College level coursework in an engineering discipline or related vocational training.
• Experience testing relays.
• Advanced knowledge of computers and SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and tests relays and other substation equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Installs and maintains substation, transmission, and distribution protection systems.
• Performs routine maintenance on relays and substation equipment to maintain NERC compliance.
• Trains and instructs less experienced personnel in relay maintenance techniques.
• Creates 'As Built' drawings for changes to protection systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
