About The Position

The Relay/SCADA Helper assists and ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of gas/electric distribution, transmission, and generation facilities by programming, calibrating/testing, troubleshooting, and repair of control systems, protection systems, and instrumentation equipment. In addition, this position assists with organizing work assignments, coordinating activities, maintaining required documents, and collaborate with team members to complete job-related assignments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electronics or instrumentation, which includes but is not limited to Utilities Engineering Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Electronics Design and Manufacturing, Electronic and Communication Technology or equivalent Armed Forces training
  • Previous relay or SCADA testing and maintenance experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Recognize work hazards and apply the safety rules in conjunction with human performance tools
  • Program, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment such as protective relays, SCADA equipment, RTUs, communication equipment and alarms, protective relay communication equipment, transducers, regulator, capacitor, and inductor controls
  • Resolve trouble call issues
  • Navigate, troubleshoot, and diagnose various communication protocols and computer application issues
  • Complete work order documentation and maintain relay/SCADA testing/database software
  • Assist with commissioning equipment analog and digital data to applicable control centers
  • Perform necessary isolation to program, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Assist with current transformer (CT), potential transformer (PT), and associated circuitry continuity and loop check tests
  • Perform lead role in switching and understand/sign onto hold card clearance zones
  • Prepare minor field designs to modify instrument and control circuitry
  • Perform install tasks, such as one-for-one equipment replacements and minor wiring changes
  • Use various test equipment
  • Ensure adequate spare parts and equipment are maintained
  • Overnight travel is required to work out of town for extended periods, sometimes on short notice
