Overview: The Relationship Banking Specialist is a key member of a high-touch, member-centric team within the credit union. This role is dedicated to delivering personalized financial services to a select group of members—typically individuals with higher net worth, complex financial needs, or long-standing relationships with the credit union. The Relationship Banking Specialist serves as a trusted advisor, fostering deep relationships, tailoring financial solutions, and enhancing member loyalty in alignment with the credit union’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of progressive experience in retail banking or financial services.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, relationship management, and strategic planning.
  • Proven results in driving performance metrics.
  • Comprehensive understanding of retail banking products, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and apply insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for member engagement and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Relationship management expertise with the ability to assess and follow through on member needs, managing a book of business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity banking systems.
  • Sales driven mindset with aggressive sales goals

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Relationship Banking Group members, providing proactive and personalized service.
  • Maintain and grow a Book of Business through strategic relationship management.
  • Understand members’ immediate financial needs and long-term goals to offer tailored solutions.
  • Resolve member issues promptly and professionally, ensuring a seamless experience.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of member preferences, needs, and goals using CRM tools.
  • Guide members in making informed financial decisions.
  • Promote and cross-sell a full suite of credit union products including Wealth Management, consumer/business accounts, loans, treasury management, and merchant services.
  • Achieve or exceed sales and referral goals as set by leadership.
  • Deliver exceptional member experience, reflected in high satisfaction scores.
  • Actively participate in community engagement efforts such as financial literacy classes, networking events, and outreach initiatives.
  • Provide Relationship Banking Group members with exclusive or early access to promotions, reduced fees, and expedited services.
  • Customize financial packages based on individual member needs.
  • Facilitate faster processing for loans, wire transfers, and specialized account services (e.g., Trust, Estate).
  • Offer access to exclusive community partner discounts and events.
  • Deepen relationships with high-value members to increase satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with internal leaders to host VIP events and appreciation experiences.
  • Encourage consolidation of financial activities within the credit union to maximize member value and institutional growth.
  • Support internal and external Workplace Banking initiatives in partnership with Community Development and Business Banking teams.
  • Partner with internal departments including Branches, Business Banking, Wealth Management, Operations, and Fraud to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Ensure all member interactions comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all member information and transactions.
