About The Position

The Relationship Banker plays a critical role in the Commercial Lending team by managing and maintaining a portfolio of existing business clients. While this position is not responsible for new loan production, it plays a critical role for the department by focusing on ensuring the health and performance of the assigned loan portfolio through proactive client engagement, timely financial reviews, and accurate documentation. The Relationship Banker serves as a key relationship manager, particularly for clients with loans on the watchlist as well as other performing loans. The Banker will regularly interact with the Credit and Portfolio Management team to ensure special mention relationships are monitored appropriately through plans of action, including regular client meetings. All employees and business units, as first line of defense, are expected to proactively help identify, assess, manage, and report risks within their domain of work. To enhance a healthy risk culture and support our growth for good pillar, employees will maintain vigilance in safeguarding our operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates. The Risk team serves as the second line of defense by providing risk oversight and credible challenge whereas the Audit team serves as the third line of defense by providing risk assurance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial banking, credit analysis, or portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, loan structures, and credit risk.
  • Ability to write clear and concise memoranda.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in loan management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The individual will have demonstrated an ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment with an ability to think broadly about the business, incorporating continual improvement of processes and procedures with a goal of excellence while focusing on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required - Comparable experience in a financial institution may be substituted for a college degree at the rate; two years of experience for one year of education

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with watchlist or special assets portfolios.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and commercial loan documentation.
  • Exposure to legal processes, including bankruptcy and UCC foreclosure.
  • Exposure to diverse credit structures, complicated structured illiquid transactions, and a broad base of industries.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of commercial loan clients, including performing, non-performing, classified, and criticized.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews, including annual credit reviews and interim financial updates.
  • Collect and analyze financial statements, tax returns, and other required documentation to ensure compliance with loan covenants and internal policies.
  • Monitor loan performance and identify early warning signs of credit deterioration.
  • Collaborate with Sales Team, Credit Analysts, Portfolio Management to assess risk and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in loan management systems.
  • Support remediation efforts for watchlist loans and assist in developing strategies to improve loan performance.
  • Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of client inquiries related to existing loans.
  • Participate in internal portfolio review meetings and contribute to risk management discussions.
  • Communicate both internally and externally with Senior Team individuals and third parties.
  • Must be a "Player Coach", with personal responsibility for modeling and managing complicated assets, mentoring and managing financial analysts and less experienced Associates.
  • Prepare presentations that will include background information, transaction structure, financial projections, and restructure recommendations.
  • Work with third parties to deliver plans of action, including CPAs, attorneys, appraisers, and environmental consultants.
