About The Position

The Senior Reinsurance Accountant at Lincoln Financial Group will provide leadership and direction in managing the accounting for complex reinsurance transactions. This role involves overseeing the preparation, recording, analysis, and reporting of reinsurance accounting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and principles. The position requires strategic knowledge of reinsurance transaction structuring and risk transfer evaluation, collaborating with various business areas and stakeholders to address accounting issues and support financial reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in reinsurance accounting, including 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, retain, and develop staff with real-time performance feedback.
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal clients.
  • Ability to influence outcomes collaboratively without direct authority.
  • Experience in identifying and recommending process improvements.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Life Insurance industry.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and Statutory accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance treaty agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate reinsurance transactions and their financial accounting implications.
  • Identify and recommend best practice opportunities to improve efficiencies in reinsurance processes.
  • Read and apply concepts from reinsurance treaty agreements to accounting and administrative approaches.
  • Research and apply accounting guidance to complex reinsurance transactions.
  • Understand and evaluate risk transfer for new transactions on both GAAP and Statutory bases.
  • Collaborate on proforma financial statements for new or amended reinsurance transactions.
  • Review and analyze proforma financial statements for accuracy and impact assessment.
  • Explain financial statement impacts of reinsurance transactions to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate treaty administrative implications for ongoing support of reinsurance accounting.
  • Responsible for internal and external reporting on reinsurance transactions.
  • Support timely and accurate monthly and quarterly financial close processes.
  • Develop control processes for internal operating and SOX controls.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
  • Establish and implement team priorities and performance goals.
  • Manage and evaluate team performance to meet standards.
  • Develop relationships with internal/external auditors and resolve issues collaboratively.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
