About The Position

The Department of Energy and the Environment (DOEE) seeks motivated student interns to support its mission of improving the quality of life for District residents by protecting and restoring the environment, conserving natural resources, and promoting energy efficiency and sustainability. Interns will gain hands-on experience in environmental policy, program management, research, and community engagement while contributing to projects that address climate change, energy, water, air quality, and environmental justice.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program (environmental science, public policy, engineering, urban planning, communications, or related fields preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Interest in energy, sustainability, climate change, or environmental justice
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • Data analysis or GIS skills are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research and data analysis on energy and environmental issues.
  • Supporting program staff in developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.
  • Drafting reports, presentations, and outreach materials for internal and public use.
  • Assisting with community engagement events, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to ensure alignment with DOEE goals.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to teams as needed.
