About The Position
The Rehabilitation Technician plays a crucial role in assisting patients and the patient care team in preparing for and performing treatment programs, as well as providing basic day care support for significant others. This position is integral to maintaining department facilities and ensuring that patient care areas and equipment, including wheelchairs and positioning equipment, are kept in a clean and orderly condition. The Rehabilitation Technician is expected to consistently demonstrate support for the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab's Vision, Mission, and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to team efforts, and showing respect and compassion for patients, their families, fellow employees, and all others associated with the institute. In this role, the Rehabilitation Technician will be responsible for preparing patients for treatments or evaluations, assisting them as necessary with garments or treatment aids. They will transfer, move, and ambulate patients using wheelchairs or stretchers, and assist therapists in direct patient care activities such as sensory stimulation, training programs, and gait training. The technician will also conduct therapeutic regimes for patients, reinforcing learnings in self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, bathing, and memory training. Observing patients and reporting any reactions or changes in condition to the supervising nurse or therapist is a critical part of the job. Additionally, the Rehabilitation Technician will maintain an inventory of adaptive equipment, perform infection control procedures, and manage food inventory for patient use. Clerical support duties may also be required, including reception duties, file maintenance, and document distribution. The technician will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining rental wheelchairs and delivering or storing supplies and equipment received from Central Supply. Overall, the Rehabilitation Technician will perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
