About The Position

The Rehabilitation Technician assists licensed staff with patient treatments. Ensures that department is kept clean and organized. Assists with equipment maintenance and cleaning of supplies. Acts in team member capacity to help the patients, staff members, and the hospital achieve their goals. The Rehabilitation Technician is actively involved in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital. Patient Population: Has contact with patients in a clinical setting; understands and demonstrates appropriate behavior when interacting with patients in the adult (18-65 years of age) and geriatric (65 and older) populations. Supervision: Not applicable.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in an acute care or LTACH setting is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current CNA certification in the state where practicing if required.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • All Rehabilitation Technicians must maintain current certification, if required by State, and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
  • Ability to lift, move, transport and position patients, equipment, or supplies/materials up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance; or over fifty (50) pounds with the aid of mechanical assistance or assistance of personnel.
  • Range of motion and mobility of self by positioning or moving around hospital to include sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, and visitors to be able to exchange accurate information regarding patient condition and health status. Ability to exchange and express information by means of language and communicate information effectively.
  • Ability to hear the nature of sounds. Ability to detect clinical alarms and conversation. Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to monitor/assess performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to see things at close range and match and/or detect differences between colors, including color and brightness.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
  • Ability to keep your hand steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision making. Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Ability to identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Ability to observe and recognize or identify changes in patient’s health status or condition.

  • Ability to view and operate required equipment.
  • Ability to determine resources needed in order to provide quality patient care.
  • Ability to handle physically aggressive patients if working in a behavioral setting.

Responsibilities

  • Implements treatment plans in a cost-effective manner, designed to help patients function independently under the supervision of the Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist.
  • Communicates patient progress to the Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Maintains and promotes positive attitude toward patients and their treatment programs.
  • Ensures patient safety at all times by notifying the Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist, assigned nurse, or nursing supervisor, of any risk factors seen, initiating, and maintaining appropriate safety measures.
  • Accurately completes all appropriate documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Communicates changing patient needs to the Physical Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist, physician, and nursing supervisor as appropriate.
  • Provides education pertaining to physical therapy or occupational therapy techniques to patients and families.
  • Plans/organizes work to maintain caseload, effectively schedule patient treatment sessions, maintains patient records.
  • Assures that equipment is maintained and is in clean and working order.
  • Reports equipment maintenance and/or repair timely.
  • Maintains open communication with the therapy team on patients’ performance and progress.
