About The Position

The Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) role at Iowa Workforce Development involves supporting individuals with disabilities in achieving their employment and independence goals. The RA will work closely with job candidates, providing guidance, training, and assistance throughout the vocational rehabilitation process, while also managing clerical tasks and maintaining communication with employers and counselors.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time work experience in a human services field involving customer service and public contact.
  • Two years of full-time work experience as a legal assistant/paralegal, medical office assistant, or job coach.
  • A combination of two years of education and full-time experience in relevant fields.
  • Current experience in the state executive branch with direct client/customer service.

  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Knowledge of labor market trends and job seeking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general agency information at orientations for job candidates.
  • Conduct initial interviews with new applicants to gather personal data and complete agency paperwork.
  • Assist and instruct job candidates in acceptable social and work-related behaviors.
  • Provide Job Seeking Skills training to assist job candidates in finding employment.
  • Complete monthly progress reviews as requested by counselors and contact employers to develop jobs.
  • Research job leads and conduct research on accommodations needed for job candidates.
  • Accompany job candidates to job interviews and provide limited job coaching as directed by counselors.
  • Support clerical processing including opening, transferring, and closing case records.
  • Process Social Security Administration verification requests and maintain files.
  • Document changes in case records and send notifications to job candidates.
