About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain patient safety
  • CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and tolerate stressful situations
  • Knowledge of age-related patient differences and ability to provide quality customer service
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret medical record documents
  • Logical thinking skills to address clinical situations (e.g., recognizing vital signs or symptoms that need to be communicated to the therapist)
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members in alignment with UPMC’s core values: Caring & Listening Dignity & Respect Excellence & Innovation Quality & Safety Responsibility & Integrity
  • Completion of CRS Orientation, Facility-specific Orientation, and Department-specific Orientation
  • Completion of all mandatory competencies for system and facility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR Certification (AHA standards including didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (with renewal)
  • Act 33 (with renewal)
  • Act 34 (with renewal)
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a therapy technician or nursing assistant preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed clinical staff (OT, PT, SLP, PTA, COTA) in providing exceptional therapy services
  • Support patient care activities and apply modalities under supervision
  • Transport patients safely and courteously between treatment areas
  • Complete clerical tasks such as scheduling, registration, and maintaining daily logs
  • Maintain and organize medical supplies and therapy equipment
  • Prepare treatment areas and ensure cleanliness according to regulatory standards
  • Communicate effectively with patients and staff to ensure smooth care delivery
  • Mentor new aides and assist with volunteer training as needed
