Under direct supervision, prepares selected patients and equipment for physical therapy services, assists in administering treatments, observes patients during treatments, reports status changes to a therapist, and orders department supplies, ensuring sufficient stock.

  • Assists with gait and ambulation under the direct supervision of a therapist or an Occupational Therapist Assistant.
  • Helps with functional activities and transfers.
  • Conducts routine follow-up of specific exercises and applies hot or cold packs.
  • Assists a physical therapist assistant when more than one individual is required to ensure the safety and welfare of the patient during ambulation, transfers, or functional activities.
  • Preps room and sets up equipment without direct supervision.
  • Transports patients to and from treatment areas.
  • Preps patient room or treatment space according to therapy ready standards.
  • Encourages, guides, and helps recurring therapy patients to prepare for therapy sessions.
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene.
  • Keeps track of ADL supplies and DME.
  • Cleans and maintains exercise and DME equipment.
  • Assists with department errands or small projects as assigned.
  • Takes patient vitals.
  • Notifies nursing units of inpatient treatment times.
  • Performs office duties as needed.
  • Performs and presents needed audits for LMS metrics.
  • Faxes, copies, prints, and scans documents.
  • Assists in taking calls from patients, physicians, and GBMC staff; monitors voicemail.
  • Maintains departmental inventories and searches for DME equipment throughout the hospital.
  • Retrieves supplies for patients as requested while supporting infection control standards.
  • Observes billing standards for supplies.
  • Reinforces patient practice of therapist assigned activity and guards Falls Risk patients when walking.
  • Reports any apparent issues or refers patients to therapists for questions.
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • 3 months healthcare experience preferred.
  • Current BLS CPR certification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of standard patient care and health care system policies and procedures.
  • Skill in demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to identify and report changes in patient's condition or equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Basic skill in computers/Microsoft Office.
  • Eligible to successfully train in EMR within access granted.
  • Skills in self-time management and organizing workspace.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and/or anatomy or ability to learn the same.
  • Eligible to successfully demonstrate use of vital signs devices.
