About The Position

The Regulatory Permitting Specialist at ESA is a full-time remote position focused on supporting interdisciplinary teams in obtaining regulatory agency approvals for various projects throughout Northern California. The role requires a skilled biologist with at least 5 years of experience in biological resource surveys, impact evaluations, and permit application processes, particularly in the context of environmental regulations. The position emphasizes collaboration, effective communication, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resources, biology, environmental planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading biological resource surveys and preparing impact evaluations.
  • Experience with federal and state environmental regulations, including the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to prepare clear and concise technical documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical expertise in energy projects.
  • Experience with protocol-level wetland/aquatic resource delineations.
  • Direct client and regulatory agency engagement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support an interdisciplinary team to facilitate and obtain regulatory agency approvals for projects.
  • Manage projects ranging from small-scale maintenance actions to complex habitat restoration and climate change adaptation projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to identify environmental constraints and develop permit strategies.
  • Prepare permit applications and respond to requests for additional information from regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor and support early-career staff by reviewing their work and providing constructive feedback.
