About The Position

The Regulatory Healthcare Attorney is responsible for providing legal and regulatory advice related to state insurance laws and regulations applicable to Cigna's domestic businesses. This role will be responsible for the intake, assessment, documentation, and monitoring of new and existing laws and regulations. Additionally, this role will support market conduct examinations and other regulatory inquiries or exams.

Requirements

  • JD; bar membership
  • 2+ years of experience in health insurance industry including prior health insurance legal experience and a working knowledge of health insurance business and regulatory principles.
  • Ability to provide risk assessment/risk mitigation support.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills with demonstrated attention to detail, ability to analyze regulatory and business information, determine cost/benefit, and provide compliant solutions and recommendations.
  • Legal drafting experience and ability to apply law to business needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Personal presence, credibility, and the professional demeanor necessary to interact within legal, business units, and regulatory agencies, with persuasiveness and confidence.
  • If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel to Cigna's domestic teams, including intaking, summarizing, and assessing the applicability of new and existing laws or regulations.
  • Provide reliable and timely legal support to legal, compliance, and business units regarding state insurance and healthcare law impacts to operations, strategic initiatives, and regulatory inquiries or complaints.
  • Draft cogent regulatory summaries communicating the impact of new laws/regulations and present regulatory instructions to committees comprised of internal operational and business areas.
  • Conduct legal research on regulatory topics.
  • Prepare comprehensive summaries of research findings, including comparative state surveys, as needed.
  • Provide advice to business units on interpretation of research findings, and impacts or barriers to business initiatives.
  • Draft documentation to explain regulatory topics trending across states.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on various state regulatory topics.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for business and product strategic regulatory needs.
  • Work on assigned projects independently or with other team members.

Benefits

  • For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 115,700 - 192,900 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
