The Regulatory Engineering Technician is responsible for understanding the test standards (UL, ASHRAE, DOE and ETP), completing requested testing per the standard and documenting the results per the lab’s ISO 17025 quality policies. The technician will primarily be responsible for UL testing for Zoneline platforms but will also be certified to perform Energy testing and performance testing of other AC products in the psychrometric and calorimeter chambers located in AP4.

  • Responsible for coordinating the schedule (test, preventive maintenance, and calibration) to optimize output and meet priorities
  • Apply unique technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of appliances and related industry and regulatory standards to review test plans, develop test methods and then execute
  • Apply technical expertise of instrumentation and test software to setup instrumentation to perform testing and monitor room conditions. Provide feedback to instrumentation/facility engineer on room and instrumentation
  • Interpret results, prepare test documentation, review calibration reports to the lab’s ISO 17025 quality policies
  • Train and educate new personnel (including technicians, engineers and interns)
  • Participate in training both inside and outside of their areas of technical expertise
  • Move and prepare engineering samples between the test area, preparation area, and storage areas. Preparation includes TCs, ductwork, etc,,
  • Other duties as assigned - Add-hoc responsibilities
  • Thorough understanding of test equipment and instrumentation. Able to troubleshoot test setup, confirm required accuracy is met and knowledgeable of routine maintenance
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Attention to detail and time management skills to multitask to meet schedule
  • Thorough understanding of standards (ETP, UL, ASHRAE, CFR.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products
  • Ability to interpret psychrometric charts and understanding of dry and wet bulb readings
  • 3 years minimum technical experience
  • 2+ year degree or military, technical, or relevant experience
  • 1 year experience as scheduler or calibration coordinator
  • Knowledge of HVAC operations
