The Senior Code Officer is a highly responsible and technical professional position within the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources' Board and Code Administration Division. The incumbent serves as the primary liaison between Miami-Dade County, municipal building departments, all certified building personnel, licensed contractors, various law enforcement agencies, and manufacturing and construction industries, overseeing efforts to improve safety across the department. This Senior Code Officer position plans, organizes, and directs advanced technical and professional staff in the building trades, overseeing their operational duties. The role involves participating in the development of the Florida Building Code and its High Velocity Hurricane Zone, as well as providing both administrative and technical support to the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA), which ensures the consistent enforcement of the Building Code. BORA holds exclusive jurisdiction over both incorporated and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County regarding its powers, duties, and responsibilities.
