About The Position

At Sovos, we're on a mission to make tax compliance seamless for businesses navigating an increasingly complex regulatory world. As a Regulatory Compliance Engineer II, you'll be at the heart of that mission — owning the quality and accuracy of the tax rules and rates that power our products and that thousands of businesses depend on to stay compliant. This is a role for someone who thrives on precision, loves digging into complex systems, and takes genuine pride in getting things right every time. You'll develop deep expertise in indirect tax rules, design and run sophisticated testing workflows, and partner with teams across the organization to continuously raise the bar on content quality. If you're energized by the idea that your work directly enables compliance for companies around the globe — and you're excited to bring AI-assisted tools into that process — this is your opportunity.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a software or technology-driven environment
  • Genuine interest in understanding the complexity of indirect tax compliance
  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python
  • Experience using AI tools to streamline labor-intensive processes and workflows
  • Ability to lead projects and processes with minimal direction, and to hold yourself accountable for outcomes
  • Strong collaboration skills and a history of working effectively across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and make sound prioritization decisions
  • A persistent, detail-oriented mindset — the kind of person who investigates discrepancies until they're fully resolved
  • Ability to professionally represent Sovos in front of state regulatory authorities and external auditors
  • Passionate about accuracy
  • Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check and drug test upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Become a critical part of the team tasked with owning and continuously improving our mission-critical tax content quality assurance process
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise in indirect tax rules — how they work, what they're intended to do, and how they should behave in software
  • Understand how tax rules are translated into tax engine logic, and identify where intent and reality diverge
  • Create and review suites of test scenarios (unit, automated, and regression) designed to validate the accuracy and completeness of our content changes
  • Design and implement AI-assisted testing workflows to expand coverage and reduce manual effort across the Content QA process
  • Collaborate with Product, Development, Client Support, Professional Services, and Compliance Services teams to enable the continued success of our Content QA process
  • Support our participation in certified compliance programs such as Streamlined Sales Tax, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data we supply to state governments
  • Support coordination of our two primary external audits (SOC 1 Type 2) of our tax content and sales tax filing processes in partnership with internal stakeholders across the organization

Benefits

  • Flexible Time-Off
  • Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision benefits
  • 401(k) with employee sponsored match
  • Bi-Weekly Meeting Free Days
  • Mentoring Programs
  • Globally recognized Training and Development programs
  • Tuition Reimbursement, Time off to Volunteer, Charitable Giving Match, and more!
