About The Position

The Regular Teacher position at Hoover High School involves providing educational programs for students in an English Language Development (ELD) classroom. The role focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional activities tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of students. The teacher will create a conducive learning environment and assess student progress while collaborating with staff and parents.

Requirements

  • Single Subject English or World Languages credential with CLAD/BCLAD certification.
  • Experience working with Multilingual learners.
  • Experience planning and implementing lessons.
  • Experience collaborating with a departmental team.
  • Knowledge of the CA Standards in ELA and English Language Development.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Several years of experience teaching English language learners.
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and best practices in ELL instruction.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of educators, students, and families.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instructional and administrative purposes.
  • Strong knowledge of CA Standards for English Language Development and CA English Language Development Framework.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingualism or proficiency in a second language.
  • Experience with curriculum development and instructional coaching.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and using data to inform instruction.
  • Experience in providing professional development and training.

Responsibilities

  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Board of Education and administrative regulations.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Encourage pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment, including instructional media.
  • Assess student progress on objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provide feedback.
  • Teach instruction to individual students or groups of students in English and in the pupil's primary foreign language.
  • Assist in assessing students' proficiencies in English and the primary language.
  • Communicate and translate regarding second language programs and related activities.
  • Participate in staff development programs during work hours as directed.
  • Collaborate and plan with implementation and diversified programs for ELD students in the classroom to students, parents, and administration.
