The nursing student is responsible for providing nursing assistance and performing basic nursing procedures to groups of patients within the assigned nursing department, under the supervision, guidance, and direction of a registered nurse. In addition, the nursing assistant can gain additional clinical practice to enhance their preparation as future licensed nurses, under the continuous direct on-site supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include interpreting the plan of medical care, providing input on the nursing care plan, and assisting in various tasks once deemed clinically competent by the nursing instructor. The role involves providing personal care, answering call lights, collecting specimens, recording vital signs, and assisting with patient mobility and comfort. The nursing student will also maintain a safe environment for patient care and assist in patient and family education.
