About The Position

This position is responsible for performing all registration functions, including the creation or confirmation of a medical record and/or account number. The role supports timely access to healthcare services by accurately collecting demographic, sponsorship or guardian information, insurance details, financial data, and statistical information from various sources, including patients, families, physicians, physician office staff, and government or county agencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college-level coursework preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year clerical experience in a patient or public contact setting OR six (6) months of experience in a health-related business office or with a third-party payor group.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and make accurate, timely decisions.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and experience working with multiple computer systems preferred.
  • Typing proficiency and strong computer familiarity required.
  • Exceptional verbal, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable, tactful, professional, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Must understand the importance of a "first impression" role, including appropriate dress, demeanor, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient registration duties with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring correct creation or confirmation of medical records and account numbers.
  • Expedite patient access to care by gathering complete and accurate demographic, insurance, financial, and clinical information.
  • Reduce account receivables and support revenue cycle performance by following established guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements to improve first-pass claim accuracy and reduce denials.
  • Collect patient financial obligations at the point of service, contributing to overall facility revenue goals.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtain authorizations within required timeframes, and identify patient financial responsibility using third-party payer tools and websites.
  • Secure required signatures for consent to treat, financial responsibility forms, HIPAA documentation, and other necessary paperwork.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other hospital departments to support coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational, state, and federal guidelines related to patient registration and privacy.
