About The Position

The Registration Specialist is responsible for check-in, preregistration, registration, preadmission, and admission functions. This includes obtaining accurate demographic information, ensuring compliance with CMS, government payors, commercial and third-party payors, EMTALA, and The Joint Commission rules and regulations. Key tasks involve benefit verification, preauthorization requirements, obtaining signatures on consent for treatment, co-pay collection, and handling previous balances. The specialist also obtains information, pictures, and signatures on HIPAA forms, and issues Medicare/Tricare Important Messages and Patient Rights and Responsibilities. This role is goal-oriented, making decisions based on the success of individuals involved in the Revenue Cycle, and requires cross-training with System Scheduling, Authorization, & Referrals to assist as needed. The specialist works closely with other personnel to ensure smooth patient flow and information to maximize reimbursement, promotes harmonious departmental relationships, delivers quality customer service, and adheres to the Mission, Vision, Values, and Philosophy of Saint Francis Healthcare System. The position involves constantly working with and maintaining restricted or confidential information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to proficiently utilize a computer and software programs is essential.
  • Must maintain a professional and courteous manners in dealing with customers and staff in all manners of communication.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate and timely independent judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in a business, billing, or healthcare scheduling/registration/admissions setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for check-in, preregistration, registration, preadmission, and admission.
  • Obtain accurate and thorough demographic information.
  • Adhere to compliance with CMS, government payors, commercial and third party payors, EMTALA, and The Joint Commission rules and regulations and ensuring compliance, requirements, benefit verification, preauthorization requirements, signatures on consent for treatment, co-pay collection and other payments on previous balances, obtaining information, pictures and signature on HIPAA forms, issuing Medicare/Tricare Important Messages and Patient Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Make decisions based on the worth and success of each individual involved in the Revenue Cycle.
  • Obtain photo ID, insurance cards, signed forms and orders (when applicable) and scan into the medical record at the time of registration/admission.
  • Work and maintain system work queues.
  • Answer the telephone, fax, scan, DPM’s, and perform various other duties assigned by the manager.
  • Assist with System Scheduling, Authorization, & Referrals as needed (crossed trained).
  • Work closely with other personnel to ensure a smooth, timely flow of patients and information to maximize reimbursement for services.
  • Promote harmonious and efficient intra and inter departmental relationships and deliver quality customer service.
  • Adhere to the Mission, Vision, Values and Philosophy of the department and Saint Francis Healthcare System.
  • Constantly work with and maintain restricted or confidential information from many sources within the Healthcare System.
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Manager.
