About The Position

Overall Responsibility: Interacts with patients and families, physicians and staff, and visitors to the facility. Registers new patients and prepares admission charts.

Requirements

  • Previous receptionist experience required, medical experience preferred.
  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
  • Requires communication skills to deal well with employees, patients, families, physicians and vendors.
  • May require lifting of 20-30 pounds maximum, potential for exposure to blood and body fluids (minimal), and exposure to infectious disease.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors in person or over the phone.
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting detailed patient information, including personal and financial information.
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients' arrival, being aware of delays and communicating with patients and clinical staff.
  • Prepares charts for admission of patients and copies patient information, including but not limited to, ID and insurance cards.
  • Admits patients and processes their paperwork, including updating patient demographics and information.
  • Collects money due, processes and handles funds per departmental procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries by patients, prospective patients and visitors in a courteous manner.
  • Protects patient confidentiality, making sure PHI is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
  • Prepares reports for upcoming surgery schedules.
  • General clerical duties.
  • Performs other duties or functions as assigned by Manager.
