The Registration Access Specialist is responsible for interviewing patients to gather accurate demographic and insurance information to facilitate the admission and registration process at various locations within the University Health System. This role ensures that the Patient Billing Department can bill correctly and timely for services rendered, while also assisting privately paying patients with service charges and payment arrangements.

  • Interview patients to obtain accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Complete the admission and registration of patients at various locations.
  • Ensure timely and correct billing for services rendered by the Patient Billing Department.
  • Communicate with privately paying patients regarding service charges.
  • Assist patients with payment arrangements and collect copays, coinsurance, and other owed amounts.
  • Collect appropriate admission forms required by Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance companies.
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Post high school coursework is preferred.
  • Six months of experience in a hospital/physician setting, obtaining insurance benefits and pre-certification is preferred.
  • Prior collection experience is preferred.
  • Billing experience and contract knowledge is preferred.
  • One year of experience in a similar occupation is preferred.
  • Basic medical terminology and ICD 9 coding experience is preferred.
