About The Position

The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for providing PRN support for registration, requiring a minimum of 16 hours per pay period and two weekend days per month. The role is flexible to work all shifts and is essential during staffing shortages. The position involves greeting and acknowledging patients, providing information about services, and ensuring a smooth registration process while adhering to customer service standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 2 years of experience in Patient Access or related fields such as general physician office support, billing office, insurance office, hospitality, or call center.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Typing speed of 25 WPM.
  • Basic understanding of web-based systems and proficiency in data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and acknowledge all patients and family members in a welcoming and prompt manner.
  • Introduce the patient to services and explain what they can expect while under care.
  • Provide information on the likely time spent in the service area, including registration and clinical service time.
  • Explain the nature of work and the importance of demographic, socio-economic, and financial information.
  • Collect appropriate out-of-pocket expenses in accordance with policy.
  • Use electronic systems to confirm coverage and discuss findings with patients.
  • Screen uninsured patients for urgent status cases and follow charity procedures.
  • Assist walk-in patients and screen orders for compliance with policy.
  • Responsible for security authorization and precertification of inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Notify relevant parties when patients are uninsured or have specific insurance types.
  • Maintain knowledge of all computer software programs to verify eligibility.
  • Identify at-risk balances related to Medicare and Medicaid eligibility rules.
  • Initiate communication with patients when authorization is not obtained.
  • Accurately collect and analyze clinical data for prior authorization and precertification.
  • Ensure accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information in the ADT system.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing calls to complete pre-registrations.
  • Participate in departmental team building activities and in-services.
