About The Position

The veterinary services team supports the health, welfare, and regulatory compliance of swine herds housed in the Designated Pathogen Free (DPF) and Source Animal Facility (SAF) at the eGenesis site in Rensselaer, Indiana. The team ensures standardized veterinary medical care, surgical excellence, herd health management, regulatory compliance, and adherence to GMP requirements. The Registered Veterinary Technician reports to the Director of Veterinary Services, Animal Resource Veterinarian or Clinical Veterinarian and serves primarily a support role to the Veterinarian Team in the Source Animal Facility (SAF) and Designated Pathogen Free facility (DPF). This position will provide support for daily animal care, surgical readiness & sanitation for program procedures, procurement, inventory management, GMP compliance and documentation.

Requirements

  • Veterinary Technician Certification
  • Over 1 - 3 years of veterinary tech experience
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in livestock surgery preferred

Responsibilities

  • Surgical support including surgical suite preparation, anesthesia monitoring, documentation and recovery management
  • Equipment maintenance and coordination with Facilities team
  • Conduct weekly medication inventory
  • Controlled substances access and documentation
  • Manage inventory tracking and requisition and participate in semi-annual inventory review meetings
  • Assist with training animal care personnel
  • Neonatal monitoring and C-section support
  • Provide daily animal care and observations including administering medications, vaccines & treatments
  • Bridge communication between animal care and veterinary teams
  • Maintain procurement suite readiness
  • Maintain GMP compliance and documentation
  • Complete submission forms for diagnostic testing
  • Calendar management of veterinary activities
  • Follow safe work practices and safety procedures
  • Promote and adhere to eGenesis, IACUC and USDA animal care policies
  • Employer-supported licensure and CE
  • Support for one national and one regional conference annually
