About The Position

VetUrgency, a BluePearl Veterinary Partner in Frederick, MD is now hiring a Registered Veterinary Technician! Schedule: Our hours of operation are 6pm-midnight on weeknights and 12pm-midnight on weekends. Shifts will match these hours. At least 1 weekend day is required. We offer a competitive shift differentials for all shifts! Pay: $24.50 - $47.00 / hour This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. We are a small animal Urgent Care (similar to the human urgent care business model) designed to reduce the stress, time, and cost associated with regular veterinary ER hospitals while still providing an uncompromising standard of care. Our goal is to create unforgettable, positive experiences for clients, patients, and team members! As a Registered Veterinary Technician, you will: Manage post-operative care for stable orthopedic cases overnight. Triage urgent care cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues. Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation. Be proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels. Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients. Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR. Sedate/induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment. Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers. Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Requirements

  • Required to have an active or eligible Maryland RVT license
  • 1-2 years’ experience in veterinary medicine
  • Computer savvy (we are paperless!)
  • Interest or certification in low-stress patient handling
  • Venipuncture, IV catheter placement
  • Medication and fluid calculation proficiency
  • Interest in helping clients and their pets
