About The Position

Respiratory Therapy is best described as the assessment and treatment of patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. Today's Respiratory Therapists have demanding responsibilities related to patient care and serve as vital members of the healthcare team. You must have a broad knowledge of the pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the complex procedures required to properly diagnose and treat patients, from the very young to the very old.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program required.
  • Must hold a current Respiratory Therapist license from the State Board for Respiratory Care.
  • NBRC RRT certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS preferred upon hire.
  • ACLS and NRP required within 6 months of hire.
  • One year of recent clinical experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Familiarity with advanced respiratory therapy techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician under the general supervision of the RT Supervisor or Team Leader.
  • Administer medical gases and aerosol therapy.
  • Obtain and analyze blood specimens.
  • Perform patient testing and operate various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment.
  • Provide mechanical ventilation and maintain artificial airways.
  • Assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Provide patient education and monitor equipment and patient response to therapy.
  • Complete documentation of in-patient and departmental records.
  • Clean equipment and maintain safety and infection control practices.
