About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs Cardiopulmonary duties in accordance with hospital policy/procedure under general supervision. This can include administering of respiratory treatments, airway management, ventilator management, blood gases, and other noninvasive cardiology procedures. This individual will be held to a high level of customer service representation and will be an active participant in the continuous quality improvement process. Serves as a resource to other employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
  • Must become certified in NRP and ACLS within 8 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers respiratory treatments and oxygen therapy correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Participates in airway management during CODEs.
  • Performs ventilator care according to established policy and protocols.
  • Demonstrates the ability to coordinate cardiopulmonary care of the patient with other departments.
  • Participates in Performance improvement activities by helping to identify, monitor, and achieve improvement goals established by the department.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and other employees.
  • Maintains compliance with hospital policy and regulatory agencies in documentation.
  • Accountable for use and ordering of supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Acts as preceptor/mentor for students and new employees.
  • Demonstrates awareness of policies and procedures regarding restraints and administers procedures appropriately.
  • Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision-making processes for all ages of the population served.
  • Effectively operates and understands the use of specialized equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of and follows OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Regulations.
  • Participates in continuing education as mandated per policy.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary patient care conferences.
