About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist position at Nationwide Children's Hospital focuses on promoting optimal cardiopulmonary function and health. This part-time role involves applying scientific principles to prevent, identify, and treat dysfunctions of the cardiopulmonary system, ensuring the best patient outcomes. The therapist will work under medical direction and collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team to provide comprehensive respiratory care.

Requirements

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credentialed through the NBRC with licensure to practice in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board.
  • Associate's degree from a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR card, and obtain and maintain PALS certification.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients, parents, and hospital staff.
  • Ability to work under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, as well as biomedical engineering and technology.
  • Effectively offer preventative care, assess, educate, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies.
  • Practice Respiratory Care under medical direction across the healthcare continuum.
  • Develop and implement effective care plans, patient-driven protocols, disease-based clinical pathways, and disease management programs using critical thinking and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
  • Provide Respiratory Care using a Family Centered Approach.
  • Assess individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicate them to the care team.
  • Embrace the interdisciplinary care model and participate in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings.
