About The Position

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist PRN with Overland Park Regional Medical Center, you will be part of an organization devoted to giving back to the community. The role involves the assessment and treatment of patients with both acute and chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. You will perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of the RT Supervisor or Team Leader, including medical gas administration, aerosol therapy, and patient education. The position requires a broad knowledge of the pathophysiology of the cardiopulmonary system and the complex procedures required to properly diagnose and treat patients of all ages.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor's in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program required.
  • Current Respiratory Therapist license from the State Board for Respiratory Care.
  • NBRC RRT certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • ACLS preferred upon hire; ACLS and NRP required within 6 months of hire.
  • One year of recent clinical experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician.
  • Administer medical gases and aerosol therapy.
  • Obtain and analyze blood specimens.
  • Perform patient testing and operate various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment.
  • Provide mechanical ventilation and maintain artificial airways.
  • Assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Provide patient education and monitor equipment and patient response to therapy.
  • Complete documentation of in-patient and departmental records.
  • Clean equipment and maintain safety and infection control practices.
