The Registered Respiratory Therapist (PRN) at BMH Bronson Methodist Hospital operates under the general supervision of the Respiratory manager and/or Director, adhering to the established policies and guidelines of the organization. This role involves providing respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary abnormalities and deficiencies, following provider prescriptions and established protocols. The therapist serves as a knowledgeable resource for providers, nurses, and other hospital team members regarding advanced respiratory diagnosis and rehabilitation.

  • Administer respiratory care to patients as per provider prescriptions.
  • Evaluate objective and subjective information regarding patient conditions.
  • Communicate findings and therapy recommendations to providers and nursing staff.
  • Perform all respiratory therapies in accordance with provider orders and protocols.
  • Assess patient responses to therapy and modify treatment as necessary.
  • Participate in emergency situations, including performing CPR and assisting with 'Code Blue' responses.
  • Maintain and clean respiratory equipment to ensure readiness.
  • Educate patients and families about respiratory therapy and procedures.
  • Supervise and instruct Respiratory Care students.
  • Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Current Respiratory Therapist license in the State of Michigan.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials required within 1 year of hire for those hired after 2004.
  • BLS certification required within 3 months of hire; ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required within 1 year of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • 5 years of experience in respiratory therapy.
