The NICU Qualified Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides care for all ages of patients. In addition to covering the general and pediatric nursing units and adult critical care areas (including PACU and ED), this therapist also accepts patient care assignments in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is a member of the NICU Transport Team. Perform a full range of respiratory care treatments—including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, ventilator management, and diagnostic monitoring—for patients across all care areas. Respond to emergencies by providing airway management, supporting Code Blue/Pediatric/Medical Response teams, attending high-risk deliveries, and assisting with neonatal resuscitation and transport stabilization. Assess patients’ respiratory status and develop individualized plans of care using provider orders and approved Respiratory Care Protocols. Maintain accurate documentation, enter charges, verify orders, follow infection control practices, and support equipment processing and supply readiness. Support patient education and pulmonary rehabilitation by supervising exercise sessions, teaching breathing techniques, monitoring clinical responses, documenting progress, and coordinating home respiratory equipment when needed.
