Reports to the Team Leader. This position requires the individual to be advanced in critical care, ECMO, and general floor care in an environment of continuous quality improvement. The RRT/ECMO Specialist has to be trained to manage the equipment necessary for providing ECMO support. It is the responsibility of the RRT/ECMO Specialist to ensure appropriate patient care through the continuous monitoring of the patient and all related equipment while working in this capacity. Through this monitoring, the RRT/ECMO Specialist is expected to identify and make corrections to the related equipment to maintain the ECMO Attending Physicians' orders.

  • Manage the equipment necessary for providing ECMO support.
  • Ensure appropriate patient care through continuous monitoring of the patient and related equipment.
  • Identify and make corrections to the related equipment as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Interpret information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.
  • Provide care as described in the department's guidelines.
  • Maintain composure and function effectively in stressful situations.
  • Organize and facilitate orientation for new hires.
  • Associate of Science in Respiratory Care.
  • Five (5) years of critical care experience as a registered therapist.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Tennessee.
  • BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Successful completion of a formal training program sponsored by ELSO or the Erlanger Health System.
  • High level of initiative, self-direction and accountability for actions required.
  • Ability to maintain composure and function effectively in stressful situations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care or related field.
