Are you living your life's work? The position is part-time, requiring 0.1 FTE or 4 hours a week, with availability for weekends, days, and evenings. The Registered Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care services in accordance with department policies and procedures, providing input to the clinical evaluation and technical aspects of administered care. Patient care includes care to patients in various age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Requirements

  • CPR certification.
  • Certification as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the PA State Board of Medicine.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist qualification.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of neonatal intensive care experience.
  • One (1) year of arterial gas punctures.
  • One (1) year of ventilator management.
  • Registry through NBRC - one (1) year.
  • One (1) or more year(s) of background experience/knowledge of Pulmonary Function Therapy.
  • Rehab/home care experience.
  • Two (2) years of critical care exposure to pulmonary patients.
  • One (1) year of non-acute care with pulmonary patients.

Responsibilities

  • Administers physician-prescribed treatment/testing to patients in all clinical areas according to physician order and/or department policy and procedure.
  • Conducts patient assessment.
  • Confers directly with patients, family, physicians, and other disciplines concerning patient needs, ability, and understanding.
  • Performs physician-ordered arterial blood sample collection and subsequent analysis on an arterial blood gas analyzer.
  • Provides complete and accurate documentation according to department policies for performed service in the electronic medical record.
  • Processes all pulmonary procedure charges in computerized Charge Capture system.
  • Administers therapeutic gases, aerosol and humidity therapy, positive pressure breathing treatment, deep breathing exercises, airway care, and other procedures.
  • Establishes, monitors, and adjusts ventilator management of critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
  • Provides administration of topical anesthesia to patients undergoing bronchoscopies.
  • Provides navigation support and rehabilitation services to patients.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and Quality Assurance activities on equipment.
  • Performs patient registration, medical record management functions, and patient scheduling.
  • Provides physician-ordered pulmonary diagnostic studies.
  • Confers with physicians and management regarding patient respiratory care plans.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance to respiratory therapists, students, RNs, and providers.
  • Participates in quality and process improvement activities.
