About the position

Seeking a Registered Professional Forester to work as a Senior Vegetation Management Inspector. This position is ideal for an entry level or seasoned forestry professionals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation, or related disciplines and with experience in these fields and line of work. We are seeking a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with at least 5-years of experience as an RPF. The RPF will collaborate with senior leaders and business development manager(s) to support proposals and new project(s) start ups where RPF is required. Candidate must be available to travel during the work week up to 75% of the time, up to 4-hours in any one direction and oversight stay. When RPF work is unavailable, the successful candidate will work as an SVMI supporting PG&E's electric transmission & distribution vegetation program(s). Senior Vegetation Management Inspector(s) may support Vegetation Management Inspectors (VMI). Performs inspections, audits, and monitors contractor performance. Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of assigned tree clearance crews. Serves as a liaison between clients, tree crews and customers. Please note this role is subject to project-based travel.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve obstacles to allow for the completion of the work in a safe, cost effective, efficient, timely, and productive manner.
  • Manage day-to-day activities to ensure personnel stay focused on the assigned job and verify appropriate scope is being achieved.
  • Act as the VM contact for new business and re-construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization.
  • Approve scheduling and scope changes in the field with PG&E representative approval.
  • Encourage public, contractor, and employee safety on site at all times by promoting positive leadership and safety culture.
  • Audit work performed by VMIs to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assist with the training and onboarding of VM Inspectors.
  • Support PGE Work Verification team to ensure observations are being properly addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain working relationship with all public agencies including Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, and BLM.
  • Maintain working relationship with PG&E's tree contractors to assist in escalated work such as customer complaints.
  • Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to be performed by PG&E's tree contractor.
  • Determine when the next trim is required and whether a trim or removal is necessary.
  • Identify and prescribe required tree pruning and tree/brush removal work needed to facilitate completion of electric compliance tags.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with PG&E Vegetation Management Standards and Procedures.
  • Utilize computers and be capable of running reports and updating data within PG&E's VMDSRs.
  • Perform Quality Check audits on assigned VMIs, focusing on field compliance and data integrity.
  • Assist in outage investigations and customer claims investigations.
  • Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements.
  • Identify and notify the PG&E representative of newly identified Idle and Private Lines.

Requirements

  • Must be a Licensed Registered Professional Forester with at least 5 years of experience.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Required to maintain a Class C driver's license.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with at least two (2) years of line clearance certification OR
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist OR
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Professional Forester OR
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Utility Inspector or higher classification with at least one (1) year of vegetation management experience OR
  • Four (4) years of Military Service with honorable discharge and at least one (1) year additional year of vegetation management inspection experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with data collection devices and GIS software.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules.

Benefits

  • Compensation at $50.35 per hour plus an in lieu of benefits amount of $12.59 per hour.
  • Union members receive a $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked in excess of 4 hours.
