About The Position

The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (PRN) is responsible for conducting sleep studies and providing essential support to patients undergoing sleep evaluations. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care. The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist will provide quality comprehensive patient care during sleep diagnostic testing and clinical treatment of sleep disorders. The type of testing includes MSLT, MWT, HSAT, Split Night and PAP therapy. Twelve hour shifts from 7 pm to 7 am various nights. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • Basic Cardiac Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Sleep lab experience in a clinical setting preferred; training provided
  • Must have experience running 2 complicated studies simultaneously
  • High School diploma or GED required; 2+ years college preferred
  • Must be registered with the BRPT and have one-year experience in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive polysomnographic studies on patients to assess sleep disorders.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment and applies appropriate recording electrodes and sensors.
  • Able to recognize clear signal of all tracing types on sleep study and differentiate from artifact in signal.
  • Review patient orders on schedule left by Sleep Lab Supervisor
  • Set up equipment, patient rooms, computers and testing supplies
  • Greet patients and escort them to their assigned room for testing
  • Orient patients on the testing process, hookup procedures and what is next in the process
  • Start testing: Set up software with patient data; perform Bio calibrations, Lights Out process
  • Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition and continually monitor the quality for artifact-free testing and adjust as needed
  • Perform sleep staging, as needed, mark EEG arousals, Leg Movement, etc. during data acquisition
  • Document observations that are important to making clinical diagnosis / treatment decisions
  • Assess and intervene; perform appropriate interventions when needed: (i.e., apply Supplemental O2)
  • Perform CPAP mask fittings & desensitization prior to starting Titration studies as needed
  • Track and mark logs for sleep lab duties and inform Sleep Lab Supervisor tasks are done
  • Monitor inventory, mark on order log and relay needs to Sleep Lab Supervisor
  • Discharge Patients after they have showered, dressed and are ready for their day
  • Maintains a positive attitude and adheres to the Cooper purpose and core values.
  • Performs duties onsite with consistent, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Accomplishes other duties as assigned.
