Mercy Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, provides polysomnographic tests, or sleep study evaluations, performed by Registered Sleep Technicians. Sleep studies are monitored by Registered Sleep Technicians and then reviewed and interpreted by a board-certified sleep physician. By taking on this role, you can make an immediate difference by treating sleep apnea and making the patients feel heard and cared for. A caregiver in this position works varying days from 7:00AM – 4:30PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) under the BRPT guidelines
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
  • Requires full range of body motion including standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients.
  • Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies.
  • Prepare patients and equipment for ordered testing.
  • Interview patients to determine sleep disorder issues and explain testing procedures.
  • Perform and document testing.
  • Monitor patients throughout testing and intervene as necessary.
  • Instruct non-registered and trainee caregivers.
  • Score, interpret and report results of sleep studies.
  • Prepare, calibrate, repair and maintain equipment required for testing.
  • Determine and report needed repairs/replacements.
  • Perform QA.
