About The Position

Responsible for performing sleep studies and related polysomnographic evaluations and scoring sleep studies. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Sleep disorders Center, this role is responsible for performing polysomnographic recording and all technical duties related to the polysomnographic evaluation of sleep disorders on assigned shifts, 3-5 days a week with 72 or 80 hours per payroll period. The incumbent will score sleep studies while working the night shift and is subject to overtime and call back as required by the hospital.

Requirements

Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts and techniques of the Sleep Disorders profession.
Proficiency required through training in polysomnographic technology course and/or training in related paramedical specialty, e.g. EEG, EKG, EMT, Respiratory Care, or Nursing.
BRPT (Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists) Certification/RPSGT Credential or NBRC Certification/CRT-SDS or RRT-SDS Credential or ABSM (American Board of Sleep Medicine) Certification/RST credential required.
Maintain a current Tennessee State License.
Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or equivalent.
Proficiency in current practices and techniques of Sleep Disorders profession as acquired through 6 months on the job experience.
Knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures as acquired through 8-12 weeks of orientation.
Must be able to operate a personal computer with associated acquisition software.
Must be able to work without direct supervision.
Must be able to recognize life-threatening abnormalities and be able and alert throughout the entire night while monitoring a patient.
Technician must be certified age competent to care for the adult and geriatric patient.

Responsibilities

Performs patient hook-ups, patient and machine calibrations, and recording following established protocol and standard procedures.
Produces optimal recordings of EOG, EMG. EKG, SA02, Airflow Impedance, and Nasal CPAP.
Utilizes ancillary monitoring/recording equipment that must be interfaced with the electroencephalograph and polygraph machine.
Continuously monitors patient activity – ensures patient safety and maintains quality recordings.
Performs equipment cleaning, minor repairs, and reports the need for any major repairs to the Manager.
Acts as preceptor for new sleep technicians as directed my department manager.
Inventories supplies, repairs, and informs Manager of materials needed.
Performs related work as required in data collection, record scoring, and record keeping.
Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
