About The Position

The Registered Polysomnography Sleep Technologist (RPSGT) is an integral part of the sleep center diagnostic, therapeutic and longitudinal sleep health program. They work collaboratively with our sleep providers, patients and families to improve and maintain ideal sleep health. The goal of the Registered Polysomnographic Sleep Technologist is to perform with a high degree of competency in all clinical aspects of sleep health for the following age groups (adult and geriatric). The applicable aspects of sleep health are the following testing modalities; diagnostic, titration and home apnea sleep testing including Split night studies, Bipap ST, AVAPS and IVAPS studies for non - ventilator dependent patients. The RPSGT uses the most current version of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Clinical Practice Guidelines in conjunction with the provider orders to perform highly skilled sleep studies. The RPSGT may participate in relaying sleep study results as determined by a sleep medicine provider using the approved workflows. Works under general supervision of the assistant sleep lab manager. Nights 6:30 PM to 7AM. Varied nights availability.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years Experience in an accredited Sleep Center
  • Licensure as a registered polysomnographic sleep technologist through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT)
  • Basic Life Support Instructor Certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical procedures and operates equipment with a high level of expertise.
  • Demonstrates decision-making skills in patient assessment and care plan based on desired outcomes of therapy, clinical data and consultation with physician.
  • Assesses patient and family's knowledge deficit regarding Cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Adheres to department procedures of accurate documentation, trouble shoots and corrects artifact, performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
  • Demonstrates activities consistent with the financial objectives of the department in the use of supplies and maintain and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Assumes and performs scoring of the polysomnographic record when assigned according to departmental policies & established guidelines.
  • Fosters teamwork by treating all staff fairly, facilitating 2-way communication and having a collaborative attitude.
  • On one's own initiative, assists in writing procedures, giving in-services recognized as necessary by the individual.
  • Maintains knowledge of infrequently used equipment and ordered patient therapeutics.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining supplies & equipment in all areas of the Sleep Center; takes responsibility for reporting and follow through to biomedical on equipment in need of repair.
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance departmental activities and objectives.
  • Cleans and maintains all polysomnographic equipment according to department policy.
