About The Position

Pharmacy Technicians I-II assist Pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient. They gather, label, and distribute medications accurately and efficiently; they package, prepare, and safely compound medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently; they handle, manage, and distribute controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies and assist with drug diversion surveillance; they assist with training new pharmacy employees; they assist with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications; they effectively communicate utilizing established systems and processes; and they perform responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations. They perform duties within their Scope of Practice under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist; they receive direction from their supervisor and other members of the Pharmacy Leadership team; they work cooperatively with other Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, patients, Physicians, Nurses, and other members of the health care team. Pharmacy Technicians III work with regular frequency in more advanced Pharmacy Technician roles, which include but are not limited to: Quality Improvement, Education/ Training, Inventory Management, and Research; and they serve as lead technicians/ super users in pharmacy operations, technology implementations, quality projects, etc.

Requirements

  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks, and understands English.
  • Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstration of excellence in leadership and team building skills.
  • Experience in teaching and / or training.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education.
  • Prior experience performing advanced Pharmacy Technician activities.
