About The Position

The Registered Pharmacist at Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) plays a crucial role in the distribution of medications and supplies, ensuring compliance with departmental procedures. This position involves collaboration with healthcare professionals to optimize drug therapy and educate patients and their families about medication use.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (5 year) required.
• Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) preferred.
• Pharmacy license in Ohio required.
• Graduate Pharmacists may be hired awaiting license.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire required.
• Previous hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Distribute medications and pharmaceutical supplies according to accepted standards of practice.
• Check the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications dispensed.
• Intervene clinically with physicians to optimize drug therapy when necessary.
• Maintain accurate patient profiling and charging records for all medication orders.
• Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as SOMC policies and procedures.
• Serve as a drug information source for patients, physicians, and hospital staff.
• Assist the Director of Pharmacy with assigned reports or projects.
• Maintain professional competency and stay current in the field of pharmacy.
• Assign, teach, supervise, and monitor the work of Pharmacy Technicians, students, interns, and externs.
