Requirements

• Current and valid state RN License
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• NRP certification required
• Basic Fetal monitoring required
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certificate required
• One (1) year of RN L&D experience; required

Responsibilities

• Maternal Monitoring:They check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and monitor for signs of complications like preeclampsia or infection
• Labor Support: They assist with positioning the patient, guiding breathing techniques, and offering comfort measures like massage, cold packs, birthing balls, or hydrotherapy
• IV Therapy: Starting and maintaining IVs for hydration, medication administration, or anesthesia
• Patient Advocacy: Nurses act as advocates during labor, especially for patients who may have specific birth plans or cultural needs
• Newborn Care: They dry, warm, and assess the baby immediately after birth (Apgar scoring), assist with cord clamping, and administer prophylactic medications
