The Registered Nurse delivers nursing care for patients across their life span, and through the nursing process, assesses, plans, implements, and documents the effects of care. Works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice. These nursing functions of the Registered Nurse are carried out according to the New Jersey/Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act (based on location), hospital policy, the hospital Mission Statement, and the Philosophy of the Department of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the State of New Jersey or Pennsylvania, based on work location.
  • Current CPR required.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in ambulatory oncology nursing helpful.
  • Oncology Nurse certification, encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Works in conjunction with the Surgical Oncologist to provide the highest level of care to the patients.
  • Assists physician with inputting orders into EPIC, as needed.
  • Enters retrospective orders into EMR per protocol for medications, imaging, and pre for procedures, etc.
  • Provides pre and post education to the surgical oncology patients and their families and answers questions regarding surgical procedure.
  • Serves as a consistent contact for the patient/family throughout the pre and post operative period.
  • Triages post operative issues and concerns for the post operative surgical oncology patient.
  • Prioritize phone calls and coordinate care accordingly.
  • Assists in coordination of care to other providers within the network.
  • Performs chart prep on scheduled patients assuring all information is obtained prior to appointment.
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of computer software systems as it relates to job functions.
  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patients, insurance carriers and facilities regarding planned services.
  • Acts as a liaison between outpatient and surgical inpatient oncology staff.
  • Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers.
  • Takes active role in department-based performance improvement.
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.
  • Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.
  • May be required to float to Network surgical oncology office sites as scheduled/needed.
